Who will buy products after all the decent paying jobs have been sent out of the country?
When all the major companies that pay a living wage have closed down U.S. operations and have moved to other countries, who will buy their products? Are there enough millionaire CEO’s to buy everything produced? The average american will not be able to puchase products. A lot of americans now work two and three jobs just to try to make ends meet.
I don’t think you’re really posing this as a question, as much as a general gripe, and I can understand your frustration very well.
One response would simply be to note that the US economy has swung quite forcefully to a service employment base. It can be argued that it’s not always necessary to manufacture the product, as long as enough people are employed in the fields that move, deliver, market and sell the product.
Every car in the world can be made in Outer Mongolia, but someone has to ship the vehicles to the countries where the buyers wait, someone has to program the computers to track the shipments, someone has to unload the vehicles when they reach the port, someone has to write the commercials that will sell the cars, someone has to film the commercials, someone has to serve as the product spokesperson that appears in the commercial, someone has to prepare the cars for sale at the dealership, someone has to sell the customer the car, someone has to arrange their financing, and someone has to change the oil every 3,000 miles. (and you know I’ve left out a lot of people in the chain).
Yes, the United States was once much more of a manufacturing country, but the undeniable fact is that our public policy choices about the environment, about worker safety, about “fair and reasonable” pay, about retirement plans, and on and on are not shared by other countries, inevitably making it “cheaper” to manufacture many products in other places around the world.
Don’t forget the underlying basic premise of capitalism – companies exist for the sole purpose of returning profits to the owner/investors. Under that premise, a company MUST produce its products at the cheapest possible cost.
So let’s see – if you want to blame something for the fact that most manufacturing now occurs overseas, I guess you’d have to blame either:
a> Workers for expecting a safe workplace
b> Workers for expecting a decent retirement
c> Workers for expecting a decent standard of living
d> Customers for selecting the cheapest of two equivalent products or
e> The economic system of capitalism upon which just about all the historical financial success of this country has been based.
It’s easy to blame the companies for every lost job, but the companies do exactly what they’re programmed to do – and exactly what they’ve done for years and years. Jobs would have moved to China, India, and the former Soviet republics 200 years ago if the infrastructure had existed to move the products to this country, track them on the way, and build modern factories in the middle of nowhere. Blame computers, airplanes and the modernization of technology.
It’s not as simple as the people who say “*#(#$*# the companies for moving all our good old American jobs overseas just so they can squeeze another couple of bucks in profits” want you to believe…

There is no doubt that chair and stool armrests play a pivotal role in providing added support and comfort for the sitter (the official term for one who sits). Fit the body and the task
Give yourself the ability, or give your employees or students the ability, to adjust the position of the armrests to fit the body in relation to the task. Our friends at OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) recommend that it’s important to adjust both the height and also the width of the armrest. Our armrest fit the bill and take it a step further:
Adjustable Height: Make sure that the height is high enough to take the weight of the arms, yet low enough that it doesn’t affect the natural position of the shoulders.
Adjustable Width: Make sure the armrests are wide enough to get in and out of the chair, yet narrow enough to keep the upper arms close to the body.
Adjustable Angling: Most armrests don’t do this; ours do. Make sure the armrests turn in at an angle that follows the natural angle
